Many realtors in our community have been reaching out – they want to help make a difference.

The importance of safe, affordable housing has never been more clear. 2020 brought many changes, including fear of evictions and their impact on the spread of COVID, discussions about race and the widening wealth gap, and massive furloughs and layoffs. While many realtors have told us they want to be a part of the solution, there have been other major shifts in the housing market that are getting in the way.

Realtors, both happy for the increased business and sometimes overwhelmed by the new workload, are observing a changing real estate market in Baton Rouge. The housing market is getting more competitive and less affordable by the day. Many realtors are doing their best to keep up with the fast pace of sales, so they don’t always have time to coach, prepare, and find resources for lower-income or first-time homebuyers. Some realtors are forced to turn away clients who deserve to be able to achieve the American Dream of homeownership, but aren’t already “home ready.”

The best way realtors can still help these families is to refer them to our Home Ownership Center.

That’s where they can help us help their clients.

By sending them our way, we can make sure every homebuyer, regardless of home buying experience or income, is prepared, has fixed their credit, and has saved for a down payment or has received down payment assistance.

Our homeownership experts will work with them one-on-one to raise their credit and increase their financial literacy. When clients are ready, they can take our HUD-certified classes that prepare them for every step in the home-buying process. Our home-buying experts can then help them to apply for down payment and soft-second mortgages. Our goal is to prepare great home buyers so they can become great homeowners.

We’re a resource for you and for them.

We’ve interviewed lenders, brokers, and real estate agents. Graduates of our program are better prepared, make smarter choices, and are easier to work with.

First-time, low-income or just simply overwhelmed home buyers need some additional support or knowledge to be successful, but our graduates are ready to make a smart financial investment in the right home for them and their families. Most importantly? We help everyone. There are no income qualifications or tricky quotas. If you have a home buyer that needs our help, we’re here to offer it.
