Over the past three weeks, the Summer C4 Carpentry Program for male youth has been a tremendous success, fostering creativity, skill development, and teamwork among the participants. Each week, the students undertook and completed a new carpentry project, gaining hands-on experience and confidence in their abilities.
The program kicked off with the creation of personalized hat racks. Under the guidance of skilled instructors, the students learned the basics of measuring, cutting, and assembling wood. The boys took pride in designing their hat racks, adding unique touches that reflected their personalities. Building on their newfound skills, the second week focused on constructing step stools. This project introduced the students to more complex techniques, such as using power tools and ensuring structural stability. The boys showed remarkable progress, working diligently to create sturdy and functional step stools that they could take home. The final week of the program was dedicated to a deconstruction project, where the students learned the valuable skill of safely dismantling structures. This project emphasized the importance of planning and organization, as well as the safe handling of tools and materials. The boys demonstrated great teamwork and problem-solving abilities, successfully completing the deconstruction tasks assigned to them.
Throughout the program, we were honored to have Councilwoman Coleman visit and speak to the students. Her encouraging words and support inspired the boys to strive for excellence and believe in their potential. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Councilwoman Coleman for her time and motivating message.
We would also like to express our gratitude to the parents for their support and trust in the program, and to the students for their enthusiasm and hard work. Your dedication has made this program a memorable and impactful experience.
Lastly, a special thank you goes out to all the sponsors who generously provided lunch for the participants. Your contributions ensured that the boys had the energy and nourishment needed to focus and perform their best each day.
The Summer C4 Carpentry Program has been a true testament to the power of community and collaboration. We look forward to seeing the continued growth and success of these young carpenters in future programs.
