On Saturday, October 24, a group of women from Louisiana State University spent their day with us at MCRA headquarters, and they put in real work.

Inside, they took on our warehouse. They cleaned, sorted, and organized shelves of materials and supplies so the space is ready for the workshops, youth programs, and community activities we have coming up. Outside, they picked up paint rollers and gave the warehouse exterior a fresh coat.

It’s the kind of work that doesn’t always get noticed but makes everything else possible. A space that’s organized and cared for is a space we can open up to the neighborhood.

Why this partnership matters

This was the latest project in our growing partnership with LSU. Earlier this fall, LSU students also joined us for their Homecoming Week Service Project, lending a hand at a home in Mid City North. Every time they show up, we see what’s possible when students come into Mid City ready to work alongside us. Our spaces get stronger, and so do the relationships.

As our programs grow, we need help getting our facilities ready for the people who’ll use them. Partners like LSU help make that happen.

“Partnerships like ours with LSU are how a community organization accomplishes more than it could alone. Each project brings us closer to the Mid City our residents deserve. We’re proud of this partnership and look forward to hosting LSU volunteers again soon.”, said Dexter Jackson, Executive Director of MCRA.

To the 21 women from LSU who gave up a Saturday to sweat with us: thank you. We noticed the effort, and we’re grateful for it.

People. Places. Progress.
