Dexter N. Jackson is an educator, community organizer, and advocate with over 15 years of experience in youth development, economic development, and creative placemaking. He has held multiple leadership positions, including serving as the Executive Director of Humanities Amped from 2022 to 2024. Before this, he held program leadership roles at MetroMorphosis and the Walls Project.
Dexter's work is dedicated to empowering people through community engagement and shared projects. He understands that a community's collective voice is a powerful tool for driving positive change. Throughout his career, he has held diverse roles that underscore his commitment to community and organizational development, including serving as the Arts Pillar Director at Adirondack Camp, the Director of Campus Life at Meadowmount School of Music, and the Leasing Manager and Residential Life Director at Fairway View Apartments.
In 2022, Dexter and Scotland Saturdays were awarded the Levitt Amp festival grant, which enabled them to bring 30 free live festivals to Historic Scotlandville. These events provided a significant boost to the local economy and community life. Demonstrating his expertise in resource development, Dexter has successfully raised over $1 million dollars for local non-profits through grant writing, capital campaigns, and donor cultivation.
Dexter is a 2016 graduate of Baton Rouge Community College and a 2022 graduate of Southern University. He is also an alumnus of several leadership programs, including the Baton Rouge Area Foundation's Development Fellows (2023), the Urban League's Leaders in Urban Education Fellowship (2020), and the Urban Leadership Development Initiative (2015). In 2021, he was the recipient of the Martin Luther King Ember Award for Social Justice. He is currently studying for his Master of Public Administration from Tulane University.
